Botswana

Most traditional dishes in Botswana are made from sorghum and maize to make either porridge or a pap called Bogobe which is usually eaten as breakfast. The national dish is seswaa, which consists of this pap accompanied by a beef stew that has been boiled with pepper and onion for two hours. The meat is pounded with salt to add flavor and then shredded and served with the pap and often a leafy green called Morongo. Alternatively, this could be served with stewed spinach and pumpkin. After beef, goat and chicken are the next two most popular meats in Botswana respectively and in most households the animals are raised by hand. Barbeques are very popular in Botswana. Dishes like Vetkoek which is an unsweetened doughnut filled with curried mince are cooked using the BBQ.
