Hola, I am Alicia Maher, born and raised in El Salvador, I call Los Angeles my home since 1986. I graduated from UCLA in 1992. I am the author and publisher of two Salvadoran cookbooks, Delicious El Salvador and El Salvador, Sabores Deliciosos.
Each cookbook contain 75 recipes, about 208 pages and over 90 photos, full color and high resolution, featuring each dish and some of the country side. Most photos were shot on location, in San Salvador by the legendary Federico Trujillo. From salads, soups, pupusas, quesadilla, atol de piña, fresco de chan, quesadilla, torrejas to the iconic Salvadoran Christmas turkey...
Delicious El Salvador has been featured in top media outlets, including CNN Latino, MundoFox, Esmitv, The Latin Kitchen, Los Angeles Magazine, La Opinion, EFE, El Tiempo Latino, El Salvador.com, Cook's Cook Magazine and more. I was named El Salvador's Culinary Ambassador by UCLA Magazine, Revista Ella from El Salvador, and Sercano TV. I have taught Salvadoran cooking classes at Whole Foods, Surfas Culinary District, Latin Food Fest, on live TV in Viva La Mañana, a morning show in El Salvador and at my home in Loa Angeles. In 2017, at the invitation of the Culinary Historians of Southern California, I gave a talk on Salvadoran food history at the Los Angeles Grand Central Library.
In 2014, in Beijing, Delicious El Salvador won the Gourmand Award for Best First Cookbook in the World, the first time El Salvador's traditional food has won the equivalent of a gold medal. My mission is to rescue and preserve El Salvador's authentic cooking for the next generations. I personally ship all the cookbooks, if you want me to sign a book send me a message with your order.
All the best,
